What to Expect on Treatment Day for Body Sculpting
CoolSculpting is a popular non-invasive fat reduction treatment that has helped many people achieve their desired body shape. If you are planning to undergo CoolSculpting, it’s natural to feel curious and perhaps a little nervous about what to expect during the treatment day and the days following.
On the day of your treatment, you will arrive at Victoria Park Medispa, and your CoolSculpting technician will ask you to fill in an online consent form and answer any last minute questions you may have. After removing your clothes, the technician will apply a gel pad and applicator to the area you want to treat. The applicator delivers controlled cooling to the fat cells beneath the skin, causing them to freeze and die forever (as long as you do not experience a major weight gain).
During the treatment, you may feel some pulling, pinching or coldness, but it is generally well-tolerated. I didn’t feel any pain other than a suction-like tugging sensation from the applicator. When the applicator was removed, the area looked red and swollen, similar to frostbite, but it disappeared within a few hours.
You can bring a book, iPad or listen to music to help pass the time, as each treatment can take approximately 30-45 minutes. I booked my appointments on the days that I worked from home; I spent my first section answering emails and my second session writing this post!
I wasn’t surprised to experience a significant amount of bruising on my love handles (I bruise easily), but it disappeared after a week or so. As for pain, the abdomen area felt very raw and sore for the first week, but it wasn’t anything that prevented me from going about my daily routine.
I emailed Jen about my symptoms and she reassured me that it is normal to experience some temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, bruising or tenderness in the treated area. It was comforting to know that I can contact Jen anytime with questions or concerns.
I avoided workouts for a few days, but within a week, I was back to my normal fitness routine. Having invested in this procedure, I felt even more motivated to eat healthy and workout at least three times a week.
Emsculpt Neo was a very different experience. We started the first treatment at around 60% – my competitive edge wanted to get to 100% ASAP but Jen was kind and she only went up to 80%. I was humbled! I could barely take it at first – the feeling is difficult to describe. But somehow, my muscles adapted to it. The treatment alternates between contracting your muscles and these lighter toc-toc-toc knowcks that release the lactic acid so you’re not sore the next day. I have to tell you I enjoyed the break when those came around!
Once the first 28 minutes were over, I realized I had sweated through the protective sheet on the bed! The back of my knees were even damp! It was quite the work out! I felt a little sore the next day, that sort of feeling you aren’t mad at after a good work out.
I was proud to go up to 100% for the next 3 treatments! I honestly felt stronger! I strength train on weekends and full disclosure, I struggle after 10 reps… but after the first treatment, I could push so much easily to 15 reps, I was shocked! Like CoolSculpting, the results can take a full 3 months to reveal themselves but I did see immediate results. Emsculpt Neo has radio frequency in it and what that does is tightent the skin. I feel the skin right under my belly button was less flabby after my two pregnancies.
