Liposuction

When diet and exercise just don’t cut it, consider an additional solution and uncover a new version of you.

Reshape your figure with the most common cosmetic surgery in the world; liposuction.

Despite trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and appearance, age, metabolism, and genetics can simply be working against you. Those extra fatty deposits hanging over your belt or making your thighs rub together can be a real source of frustration. Liposuction is an extremely effective way to change the body’s shape and could just be a tailored solution for you!

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction or lipo is a medical procedure which focuses on reshaping the body by permanently removing persistent and stubborn fat cells. This treatment is a game changer due to its ability to target and eliminate specific pockets of fat cells with minimal downtime.

One of the main advantages of liposuction over other body contouring procedures, is how small the incisions are to gain access to the fatty deposits being targeted. Only a thin tube, known as a cannula, needs to be inserted in order to suction out fat cells. As such, liposuction results in exceptionally minimal scarring.* It’s no wonder this surgery has become the most widely performed cosmetic procedure in the world.

While liposuction is commonly performed in addition to other cosmetic plastic surgeries, such as breast augmentation, tummy tuck and neck rejuvenation, the procedure is often carried out on its own with the objective of targeting the abdomen, flanks (also known as “love handles”), hips, thighs, and/or buttocks.

*Individual results may vary.

Liposuction treatments such as CoolSculpting, Emsculpt and Exilis are used to get rid of love handles.

How do I know if Liposuction is right for me?

Is liposuction more of a weight-loss operation or a body sculpting procedure? We can confirm that it’s definitely more of a body sculpting procedure. Ideal candidates are healthy men and women near their target weight who suffer from localized areas of fatty deposits. One of the main limitations of liposuction being successful on its own, is suboptimal skin quality. If your skin is too lax (from previous obesity, pregnancy, or simply from the aging of the tissues), it may hang loose after the underlying fat is removed. In such cases, additional surgery may be required to achieve the desired results. The best way to determine whether liposuction is right for you is to visit one of our Victoria Park Medispa for a consultation.

For patients who have less prominent fatty deposits or prefer a non-surgical approach, CoolSculpting or Emsculpt Neo may be more suitable options.

Which parts of the body can be liposculpted?

We can perform liposuction almost anywhere on the body where excess fatty tissue exists under the skin. It is common to sculpt multiple areas during a single procedure. For women, the most common areas for liposuction are the abdomen, flanks (also known as “love handles”), and thighs. For men, they are most commonly the neck, chest (gynecomastia), abdomen and flanks.

Liposuction treatments such as CoolSculpting, Emsculpt and Exilis are used to reduce the fat around the abdomen and torso

Hormones, genetics, age, and pregnancy are all considered culprits when it comes to subcutaneous fat (the stuff that’s just under the skin that feels soft and pinchable).

Liposuction at the midsection, including areas such as the belly, the flanks (also known as “love handles”), and the back (including the bra bulge), are arguably the most popular regions. Not only are they common areas of frustration for both men and women, but the obtainable aesthetic results can be life changing. Furthermore, the skin in these regions can often re-drape naturally, without the need for further intervention. We can see a reduction of several inches in waist circumference depending on the person and the number of body regions treated.

It’s important to note that liposuction cannot correct muscles that have lost their tone and will not result in a sculpted abdomen, despite the permanent removal of fat in the area. Talk to one of our experts to see if you are the right candidate for liposuction, and to clarify what you can expect from the procedure.

Liposuction treatments such as CoolSculpting, Emsculpt and Exilis are used to reduce the fat around arms

Some people accumulate excess fat on the arm, especially on the back side. Oftentimes carrying extra fat in this area is genetic. Liposuction can be extremely successful in thinning out the upper arm. Looking for something a little less invasive? Victoria Park Medispa offers a variety of other body contouring solutions that our experts can assist you in exploring, such as CoolSculpting and Emsculpt.

Liposuction treatments such as CoolSculpting, Emsculpt and Exilis are used to get rid of buffalo hump.

A common yet rarely discussed condition that both men and women can suffer from is the Dorsocervical Fat Pad or ‘Buffalo Hump’. This is a condition where excess fat collates behind the neck and between the shoulders, creating a hump-like shape. This fatty lump responds well to liposuction.

Liposuction treatments such as CoolSculpting, Emsculpt and Exilis are used to reduce the fat around buttocks.

Some people tend to accumulate fat in their buttocks, especially as they age. Liposuction can give excellent results in this area by selectively liposuctioning certain parts of this region. Additionally, some suffer from a small horizontal, banana-shaped bulge located just under the buttock, commonly referred to as the “banana fold”. This too can be greatly improved with an experienced liposculptor.

Liposuction treatments such as CoolSculpting, Emsculpt and Exilis are used to reduce the fat around the male breast.

Pseudogynecomastia is an enlargement of the male breast due to excess and stubborn fat in the pectoral area. Liposuction can often provide dramatic results. For those suffering from gynecomastia, in addition to any excess fat removed with liposuction, actual breast tissue would need to be removed.

Liposuction treatments such as CoolSculpting, Emsculpt and Exilis are used to reduce the fat accumulated around chin and to get rid of double chin.

As we age, it’s common to accumulate fat around the chin and for some, it’s simply an unfortunate genetic predisposition. Liposuction can be a fantastic choice for removing a double or triple chin. Victoria Park Medispa also offers a range of other solutions such as Belkyra, CoolScuplting and Ultherapy.

liposuction used to reduce the fat around hips

Even people who are naturally slim can have what we call “saddlebags” and “love handles”. Saddlebags is the name commonly used to refer to the fat that accumulates on the outer thighs, just below your buttock. Love handles refers to protruding flanks due to excess fat in the area. Suffering from both is commonly referred to as “hip dips” or a “violin” deformity. Both of these conditions make great candidates for liposuction because we have the ability to re-contour the silhouette beautifully by removing the excess fat in each area.

If you’re looking for something a little less invasive, Victoria Park Medispa offers other body contouring solutions for fat removal in the hip and flank areas, such as CoolSculpting.

Liposuction treatments such as CoolSculpting, Emsculpt and Exilis are used to reduce the fat above the knee

Knees can accumulate fat in two places; on the inside of the leg and just above the kneecap. In some instances, there is so much fat between the two knees that patients experience discomfort due to friction. In both of these areas, liposuction can provide great results.

For fat removal in the knee area that’s a little less invasive, Victoria Park Medispa offers other body contouring solutions like CoolSculpting.

Liposuction treatments such as CoolSculpting, Emsculpt and Exilis are used to reduce the fat around thigh.

A significant part of the thigh can be liposculpted, i.e., the anterior, exterior and interior. Some women have an accumulation of fat in the inner thigh area, which is not only bothersome to them aesthetically, but can also cause physical discomfort due to friction. If this is something you suffer from, then liposuction is an excellent choice for you.

Looking for something a little less invasive? Victoria Park Medispa offers other  solutions for fat removal in the thigh area, such as CoolSculpting.

WHAT IS RENUVION J-PLASMA AND DO I NEED IT?

Renuvion J-Plasma is a single-treatment solution and the only device FDA-cleared for improving the appearance of loose skin.

J-Plasma is a minimally invasive procedure that smooths and contours the neck and chin for an overall younger and tighter-looking appearance. It has been FDA cleared for use following a liposuction procedure and can also be used throughout the body to aid in skin tightening, re-draping and minimally invasive body contouring.

During a J-Plasma procedure, a wand is inserted just under the skin to deliver a unique combination of radiofrequency energy and helium plasma directly to the collagen-rich tissue that is a key source of loose skin. Renuvion J-Plasma treats the collagen fibers under the skin, contracting them and triggering the collagen rebuilding process known as neocollagenesis. The benefit of Neocollagenesis can be seen within 6 weeks following the procedure and will continue to improve for many months. An ideal candidate for liposuction with a J-Plasma add on is someone with moderate skin laxity.

YOUR FAQ’S,

ANSWERED BY OUR EXPERTS

How long does Liposuction last?

Liposuction is a permanent procedure; the fat cells that have been removed from the body are gone forever. It’s important to understand that our bodies only have a certain amount of fat cells and by the time we reach adulthood, the number and distribution of them is already set. As we gain and lose weight, the fat cells we have grow larger and smaller respectively. If you do gain a significant amount of weight, you will regain some fat in the area liposuctioned. This is because even though you removed a lot of the fat in the region, the remaining cells can continue to grow with significant weight gain.

The results from liposuction can be long lasting, as long as you are able to maintain your weight.

Does liposuction make cellulite disappear?

We cannot guarantee that cellulite will disappear, however, the surface of the skin often shows significant improvement because there is less tension, and it tends to lay smoother. If cellulite is one of your major concerns, ask our experts about a treatment called Cellfina, which specifically targets cellulite.

Is Liposuction painful?

A local anesthetic will be used to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Following the procedure, you can expect moderate pain and soreness for the first few days of recovery.

Liposuction vs. CoolScultping, what’s the difference?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, non-surgical, non-recovering medical procedure that helps remove extra fat cells from under your skin. During a CoolSculpting session, the machine sucks in the area to be treated and then cools it. The principle is based on a controlled cold temperature so as not to damage other cells. Initial results appear after a few sessions and final results after 3-4 months.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure. The surgical team uses the tumescence technique, which means that a local anaesthetic is used. A small incision is made in the skin and a suction cannula is inserted to suck out the fat from a specific area of your body. The final results are seen after 6 months.

CoolSculpting can remove up to 27% of fat cells from a person’s body area per treatment, while liposuction removes a significant amount of the fat cells targeted.

Where can I get this treatment?

Surgical consults take place in our clinics, however, the surgeries themselves are performed in private surgical centres.

Should liposuction be done before or after pregnancies?

Most women wait to come in for liposuction consults after pregnancy, however there is no problem in having the procedure beforehand. In fact, the skin and muscles are at their best quality prior to pregnancy, which means the results may be even better. This is especially the case for patients who have a tendency to gain excessive weight during pregnancy.

How long do I need to wait following childbirth to have a liposuction procedure, and do I need to be done breastfeeding?

Postpartum women should wait a minimum of 6 months before having a liposuction procedure. It’s important to give the body ample time to recover following childbirth. Breastfeeding is a contraindication for many body contouring surgeries. We recommend booking your consultation once you’ve completed breast feeding.

How much does it cost?

The price varies depending on the area to be treated and the body size. Typically, it ranges from $3,000 to $12,000. This will be determined during your consultation.

HOW MUCH DOES RENUVION J-PLASMA COST?

To add a J-Plasma treatment to liposuction on the body, the cost is typically between $3,000 and $3,500. A J-Plasma neck rejuvenation can start around $4,000 and will depend on the severity of the skin laxity.

Is liposuction good for weight loss and how much weight can you lose?

Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure as much as it is for body sculpting. Meaning, the goal is to reshape the area by removing fat and therefore inches. Of course, having fat suctioned out of the body will undoubtedly be reflected on the scale.

During your consultation with one of our experts, you may be provided with an estimate on how much fat they expect to remove. Generally speaking, you will review your goals in terms of inches as they relate more directly to the shape you’re looking to achieve.
