Liposuction

Non-invasive solution
Stubborn fat doesn’t stand a chance

Seeking a solution to reduce thigh fat or slim down arms? If you want to enhance your body’s shape and silhouette, while refining its contours, look no fruther than liposuction. It’s a popular non-surgical fat reduction option that delivers results.

Because despite trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and appearance, age, metabolism, and genetics can simply be working against you. Those extra fatty deposits hanging over your belt or making your thighs rub together can be a real source of frustration. Liposuction is an extremely effective way to change the body’s shape. It might just be the most tailored solution for you!

Liposuction or lipo is a medical procedure which focuses on reshaping the body by permanently removing persistent and stubborn fat cells. This treatment is a game changer due to its ability to target and eliminate specific pockets of fat cells with minimal downtime. One of the main advantages of liposuction over other body contouring procedures, is how small the incisions are to gain access to the fatty deposits being targeted. Only a thin tube, known as a cannula, needs to be inserted in order to suction out fat cells. As such, liposuction results in exceptionally minimal scarring.* It’s no wonder this surgery has become the most widely performed cosmetic procedure in the world. Liposuction is commonly performed alongside other plastic surgeries like breast augmentation, tummy tuck and neck rejuvenation. However, the procedure is often carried out on its own with the objective of targeting the abdomen, flanks (also known as “love handles”), hips, thighs, and/or buttocks. *Individual results may vary.

Your physician may opt to use local anesthesia for liposuction, ensuring a more comfortable experience from the start of surgery to recovery. It’s what makes it one of the most effective solutions for treating tenacious fat deposits in specific areas of the body.

Wondering which parts of the body can be liposculpted?

We can perform liposuction almost anywhere on the body where excess fatty tissue exists under the skin. It is common to sculpt multiple areas during a single procedure. For women, the most common areas for liposuction are the abdomen, flanks (also known as “love handles”), and thighs. For men, they are most commonly the neck, chest (gynecomastia), abdomen and flanks.

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

Want to know how to lose stubborn fat, and keep it off? Book a free consultation with a Victoria Park Medispa expert. At your appointment, your expert will work with you to decide whether Liposuction—or one of our available Liposuction alternatives—is right for you.

DURING THE TREATMENT

Liposuction is a form of surgery. As a result, your surgeon may administer anesthetics to ensure maximum comfort throughout the process. From there, they will make small incisions around the treatment site to access the fatty deposits. They will then insert a cannula into the skin to suction out fat cells.

After THE TREATMENT

Recovery time for liposuction varies from person to person. Most patients can resume light work in the five to seven days after treatment. In the four to six weeks after treatment, patients can get back to physical activities as normal. Because the incisions made are so minor, most patients are pleased to find minimal scarring post-treatment. So, just how effective is liposuction? A recent study on patient outcomes following treatment revealed that most patients are pleased with their results from Liposuction.

Related Conditions

Dealing with stubborn fat deposits? Liposuction is performed virtually anywhere on the body where excess fatty tissue can be an issue. Common treatment areas include the abdomen, what you may consider to be excess arm fat, flanks (sometimes called “love handles”) and thigh fat. Concerning liposuction for men, common treatment areas are the neck, chest (gynecomastia), abdomen and flanks.

FAQ

Got questions about Liposuction? We’ve got your answers here

How do I know if liposuction is right for me?

Is liposuction more of a weight-loss operation or body sculpting procedure? We can confirm that it’s more of a body sculpting procedure. Ideal candidates are healthy men and women near their target weight who suffer from localized areas of fatty deposits. One of the main limitations of liposcution being successful on its own, is supoptimal skin quality. If your skin is too lax (from previous obesity, pregnancy, or simply from the aging of the tissues), it may hang loose after the underlying fat is removed. In such cases, additional surgery may be required to achieve the desired results. Book a consultation to find out whether liposuction is right for you, based on your aspirations. For patients who have less prominent fatty deposits, or prefer a non-surgical approach, some Liposuction alternatives we offer, such as CoolSculpting o Emsculpt Neo may be more suitable options.

How long does liposuction last?

Liposuction is a permanent procedure that eliminates unwanted body fat; the fat cells that have been removed from the body are gone forever. It’s important to understand that our bodies only have a certain amount of fat cells and by the time we reach adulthood, the number and distribution of them is already set. As we gain and lose weight, the fat cells we have grow larger and smaller respectively. If you do gain a significant amount of weight, you will regain some fat in the area liposuctioned. This is because even though you removed a lot of the fat in the region, the remaining cells can continue to grow with significant weight gain. The results from liposuction can be long-lasting, as long as you are able to maintain your weight.

Does Liposuction get rid of cellulite?

We cannot guarantee that cellulite will disappear, however, the surface of the skin often shows significant improvement because there is less tension, and it tends to lay smoother. If cellulite is one of your major concerns, ask our experts about Cellfina, a treatment that’s designed to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Is Liposuction painful?

A local anesthetic will be used to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Following the procedure, you can expect moderate pain and soreness for the first few days of recovery.

What’s the difference between Liposuction vs. CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive, non-surgical, non-recovering medical procedure that helps remove extra fat cells from under your skin. During a CoolSculpting session, the machine sucks in the area to be treated and then cools it. The principle is based on a controlled cold temperature so as not to damage other cells. Initial results appear after a few sessions and final results after 3-4 months. Liposuction is a surgical procedure. The surgical team uses the tumescence technique, which means that a local anaesthetic is used. A small incision is made in the skin and a suction cannula is inserted to suck out the fat from a specific area of your body. The final results are seen after 6 months. CoolSculpting can remove up to 27% of fat cells from a person’s body area per treatment, while liposuction removes a significant amount of the fat cells targeted.

Where can I get this treatment?

Surgical consults take place in our clinics. Following these initial appointments, surgeries are performed in private surgical centres.

Can I do liposuction before or after being pregnant?

Most women wait to come in for liposuction consults after pregnancy, however there is no problem in having the procedure beforehand. In fact, the skin and muscles are at their best quality prior to pregnancy, which means the results may be even better. This is especially the case for patients who have a tendency to gain excessive weight during pregnancy.

How long do I need to wait following childbirth to have a liposuction procedure, and do I need to be done breastfeeding?

Liposuction safety is something we take extremely seriously. To ensure you take all necessary precautions, we strongly suggest that postpartum women should wait a minimum of 6 months before having a liposuction procedure. It’s important to give the body ample time to recover following childbirth. Breastfeeding is a contraindication for many body contouring surgeries. We recommend booking your consultation once you’ve completed breastfeeding.

How much does liposuction cost?

The price varies depending on the area to be treated and the body size. Typically, it ranges from $3,000 to $12,000. This will be determined during your consultation.

Is this good for weight loss? How much weight can I expect to lose?

Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure as much as it is for body sculpting and getting rid of unwanted fat. Meaning, the goal is to reshape the area by removing fat and therefore inches. Of course, having fat suctioned out of the body will undoubtedly be reflected on the scale. During your consultation with one of our experts, you may be provided with an estimate on how much fat they expect to remove. Generally speaking, you will review your goals in terms of inches as they relate more directly to the silhouette you’re looking to achieve.
