PicoWay® Tattoo Removal

Non-invasive solution
Because nothing has to last forever

Maybe your tattoos seemed like a great idea at the time. Now, whenever you look at them, you can’t help but wish you could wash them off—mom and dad were right. While traditional tattoo removal systems were limited in the past, and couldn’t effectively treat all tattoo colours, today’s tattoo removal technology is powerful. Now, PicoWay® is able to treat a spectrum of ink colours while breaking down ink particles to render your tattoos barely visible. All of this can be accomplished in only a few sessionsa series of sessions. If you’re tired of seeing your tattoos and miss your bare skin, it’s time you discovered PicoWay®, one of the most effective tattoo removal options available today.

As specialists in all things aesthetics, we offer a wide variety of tattoo removal treatments catered to your specific needs.

Fade away a former version of you with PicoWay®, the world’s fastest tattoo removal system. PicoWay® works by delivering energy in ultra-quick pulses. These blasts are so fast, they’re measured in a unit called picoseconds—one trillionth of a second—which is why it’s sometimes referred to as picosecond laser tattoo removal. You’ve never seen quick tattoo removal treatments quite like this. With PicoWay, different laser wavelengths are used to target specific ink colours, which makes it effective even when it comes to removing complex tattoo colours and detailed fine lines. This combination of speed and differing wavelengths allows for greatly improved results, a more comfortably and far less painless tattoo removal treatment, and fewer sessions altogether. Past tattoo treatments were only really effective on fairer complexions. However, PicoWay®’s modern technology functions on all skin tones, particularly those with darker skin tones who may be concerned about post-treatment hyperpigmentation. For our Montreal and surrounding area based patients, we offer PicoSure™, a specialized treatment that is the preferred option for anyone with saturated tattoo tones—like blue, green and purple. PicoWay, on the other hand, more effectively targets and fades red or black tones. We will always determine the best course of treatment based on your individual needs. Victoria Park Medispa is also proud to stand behind its “Erase the Hate” initiative. Here, we believe in second chances and believe we all have a responsibility towards a better world. This means we offer free tattoo removal of hateful messages.

PicoWay® Tattoo Removal

BefoRe THE TREATMENT

Wondering if tattoo ink removal is right for you? The only way to know for sure is by booking a consultation. At your appointment, a Victoria Park Medispa expert will meet with you to discuss our non-invasive tattoo removal solutions. They will review your skin type, discuss results, and perform a patch test on your tattoo. This ensures you won’t have any adverse reactions and that the healing process is smooth.

During THE TREATMENT

On average, a PicoWay® treatment takes ten to thirty minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo. PicoWay® happens to be one of the quickest tattoo removal treatments available. Most people say that the pain of tattoo removal is tolerable, but this too depends on the area being treated and your individual pain threshold. Some say it is quicker and less painful than receiving a tattoo. If you’re concerned, your Victoria Park Medispa expert can apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment site about 30 to 60 minutes prior to treatment to minimize any potential discomfort.

After THE TREATMENT

Immediately after your treatment, the treated area will have a white discolouration (white frosted crust). Redness and swelling will also occur. This is normal and will disappear slowly over time. Some blistering may occur as this is the body’s natural healing process, but this is rare. Gauze and ointment will be applied at the end of the treatment to protect the area from infection. Your Victoria Park Medispa expert will prescribe a cream that you can apply in the days and weeks post-treatment. Overall, you can expect minimal downtime from your tattoo removal treatment.

PicoWay® is the industry standard for removing complex tattoo colours and for delivering results. If you’re keen on undergoing a tattoo removal treatment without any scarring, this treatment is the best option.

FAQ

Got questions about PicoWay® tattoo removal? We’ve got your answers here

What does a PicoWay® tattoo removal laser do?

The PicoWay® laser generates light energy that is targeted at colours matching the specific laser wavelength in ultra-short picosecond (trillionth of a second) pulses. These pulses shatter the tattoo into very tiny particles, which are then eliminated by the body’s natural processes. The PicoWay® laser emits less heat energy than traditional lasers providing a safer, more comfortable treatment for more skin types, with fewer side effects.

What makes PicoWay® better than other tattoo removal systems?

There are a number of things that make PicoWay® unique and, we believe, the best solution for tattoo removal in Montreal.

The first major difference is the use of photo-acoustic vs. photo-thermal technology. With photo-acoustic, laser energy is delivered so fast that even the smallest ink pigments are shattered. With photo-thermal, the laser energy is delivered more slowly so that only the larger pigment fragments will shatter.

The PicoWay’s picosecond (one trillionth of a second) technology delivers photo-acoustic power and shatters ink pigment with little photo-thermal effect—thus ensuring that the surrounding tissue does not receive much heat. The old technology, called Q-switched lasers, generally took 12 to 16 treatments, use nanosecond technology delivering photo-thermal and a small amount of photo-acoustic energy. The surrounding tissue is traumatized with the ink pigment being more slowly heated and broken down. The skin needs more time to heal between treatments and the ink particles need more treatments to break down.

The second major difference is the use of three light wavelengths, with each light wavelength targeting a different colour ink pigment. This allows the PicoWay to better treat all colour of tattoos, especially historically difficult to treat greens, reds and yellows.

These differences allow the PicoWay to treat more tattoo colours and types, with less sessions, less discomfort, and better results.

Am I candidate for tatoo removal?

The PicoWay can remove tattoos on all skin colours. We recommend coming in for a consult with one of our experienced laser technicians to learn more about tattoo removal and what type of results to expect. During the consultation we will have a look at your tattoo, skin type, pricing and discuss other factors that we take into account for treatment. Want to proceed with the treatment? We’ll treat a test ptach on your tattoo to ensure you don’t have any adverse reactions.

How many PicoWay® tattoo removal treatments will I need in total?

The number of treatments depend on many factors including the age, location, depth, size and type of tattoo. Most tattoos require five to eight treatments with the PicoWay for optimal results.

What will my skin look like after treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, the treated area will have a white discolouration (white frosted crust). Redness and swelling will also occur. This is normal and gradually disappears over time. Some blistering may occur as this is the body’s natural healing process, but this is rare. Gauze and ointment will be applied at the end of the treatment to protect the area from infection.

Can I remove only one part of my tattoo?

Yes, we can use adjustable spot sizes with the PicoWay® to precisely remove only certain parts of your tattoo.

What conditions would prevent me from qualifying for laser tattoo removal?

Generally, most candidates considering fading tattoos are eligible for treatments. However, there are a few caveats. Some of the conditions which would prevent a treatment for tattoo removal include:

  • Accutane therapy must be stopped 6 months prior.
  • History of photosensitivity to infrared light
  • Acne breakout or infected areas cannot be treated.
  • Pregnancy
  • Seizure disorders
  • Photosensitizing medications must be stopped 3-5 days prior.
  • Medications and supplements: Iron supplements, anti-coagulation therapy, herbal supplements (i.e. ginkgo, ginseng, garlic, fish oil) may cause bruising more readily.
  • Topical medications and skin care products must be discontinued 72 hours pre- and post-treatment.
  • Active skin infections: open wounds or skin that is infected cannot be treated.

You cannot be treated if you have recently tanned skin. You must avoid the sun for 30 days prior to treatment. If you fail to avoid the sun, blisters and hypopigmentation/hyperpigmentation may occur.  You must also avoid direct sun exposure for another month after treatment. Providing our patients with safe tattoo removal methods is of utmost importance to us. If you’re unsure of whether you’re a candidate for this type of treatment or not, your best bet is to speak to a Victoria Park Medispa expert at your consultation.
