Microneedling

Non-invasive solution
From within lies the secret to gorgeous, radiant skin.

Searching for a solution to diminish acne scars, large pores, or treat your hyperpigmentation? You might want to consider a transformative treatment like microneedling. Whether your concerns are the result of age-related skin texture or simply to refine your facial complexion by fading acne scars, our team of experts believe that microneedling can deliver the results you’re looking for.

Microneedling is a quick, non-surgical treatment engineered to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production to minimize wrinkles, fine lines, and stretch marks. Its collagen-boosting properties also make it optimal for addressing other imperfections, like enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, and for restoring your skin’s elasticity. Because it’s so targeted and precise, it’s often used as a scar reduction treatment or an option for crepey skin, a condition characterized by fine, wrinkled skin that’s due to sun damage.

Microneedling, on its own, is a non-surgical treatment that works with the body’s natural processes to ensure optimal results. Your Victoria Park Medispa expert uses thin needles to pierce tiny holes in the top layer of your skin. By “injuring” the skin, it forces the dermis (the skin’s top layer) to spring into action and produce collagen and elastin. Most patients seek out this course of treatment for their faces, but it can reduce imperfections all over your body.

While effective on its own, microneedling can be paired with another technology, like radio frequency, to amplify the experience and take your skin to new heights. Check out our Morpheus8 page for more information on combining microneedling and radiofrequency.

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

The best way to find out if microneedling is right for you is by speaking to a Victoria Park expert. At your appointment, they can determine what form of microneedling is the right fit for you. They will also discuss any potential risks and side effects with you during treatment.

DURING THE TREATMENT

Microneedling is quick and easy. It takes roughly half an hour to an hour to complete. First, your Victoria Park expert may apply a numbing cream or ointment to your skin’s surface. Then, they will use a microneedling device to create tiny punctures on the skin.

After THE TREATMENT

Recovery time following a microneedling treatment lasts about two to three days. Some degree of redness or swelling can be expected, but this usually subsides in the first few days. Your Victoria Park expert will guide you on what to do after treatment. Normally, it’s best to refrain from physical exercise, spas/saunas, hot showers, and sun exposure for up to 72 hours after treatment. Additionally, it’s best to try to avoid active ingredients—like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, retinol, and vitamin C—those first few days as well.

FAQ

Got questions about microneedling? We’ve got your answers here

Are Microneedling and Dermarolling the same thing?

While dermarolling is said to have its benefits, it is not the same as microneedling. Here are two key reasons why:

  • The needles that penetrate the skin in microneedling pens stamp the skin in a vertical motion. When using a dermaroller, the needles penetrate the skin at an angle as the device rolls across the surface. This increases the chance of damaging the skin, leading to more side effects and longer recovery time.
  • The needles in a dermaroller can also come in a variety of sizes and lengths which can be confusing to the average user, causing more harm than good. The microneedling pen is adjustable, allowing our trained technicians to provide a safe and effective treatment.
  • The lack of sanitation in home treatments can lead to infections. Leave your skin in the hands of an expert.

Does the treatment hurt? Are there any side effects?

We always take measures to make your experience as pleasant as possible. To avoid any discomfort, a numbing cream can be applied to prior to your treatment. It is normal to experience redness and some swelling within the first 24-48 hours.

Are there any contraindications?

Due to nature of this treatment, there are a number or contraindications such as the presence of active acne, recent treatments with Accutane, history of eczema and psoriasis to name a few. During a consultation for microneedling, our highly trained technician will review any pertinent information to ensure that microneedling is right for you.

Who is a good candidate for microneedling?

Good candidates for microneedling are those in good health (free from infection, fever, or a rash) and who want to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, boost collagen, or treat acne or injury-related scars. Talk to one of our highly trained experts see if microneedling could work for you.
