SPOTTING REDNESS AND BROKEN VESSELS ON YOUR FACE? YOU MAY HAVE ROSACEA.
By Dr. Miriam Hakim, dermatologist, West Island.
Do you have redness you can’t seem to get rid of? Do you flush easily? Do you have broken blood vessels on your nose and cheeks?
If so, you may have rosacea. Rosacea is a skin condition that affects millions of people in Canada (three million to be exact), and it can be difficult to diagnose since the symptoms vary from person to person.
In this blog post, we will discuss the causes, symptoms, and treatments for rosacea. We will also cover how Forever Young BBL can be used to help with rosacea.
So, what causes rosacea and how can you diagnose it yourself?
Studies show that people with rosacea have facial blood vessels that are hypersensitive and get inflamed with normal environmental factors such as wind, heat, UV light, spicy foods and alcohol.
The signs of rosacea range from thinning in the skin (with skin vessels appearing large), pimples and small acne-like pustules to thickening of the skin (in other individuals), which can be unsightly. Symptoms of this condition include persistent flushing of the face and in some people, a feeling of mild but constant facial dryness, burning or irritation. Individuals with rosacea often find flares with washing of the face or application of facial creams used to treat redness (see below for recommendations).
Diagnosing rosacea can be tricky because the symptoms may vary from person to person, and there are other conditions that can mimick rosacea so it’s always best to consult with a dermatologist or medical professional for a proper diagnosis.
How to manage Rosacea?
While rosacea cannot be cured, it can be managed with proper treatment. Forever Young BBL at Victoria Park Medispa is one of the most effective treatments for rosacea, and you can enjoy long-lasting results in a short amount of time. This treatment is based on a technology called “selective photothermolysis”. This principle consists of emitting a pulsed light through the BBL handpiece, which is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin, responsible for the redness and blood vessels visible in the skin. As added benefits, BBL also helps stimulate collagen and elastin that give the skin its radiance and tone.

Rosacea can also be treated with skincare products that contain anti-inflammatory ingredients such as niacinamide, green tea extract and ceramides. For products using clean ingredients, animal cruelty-free, high concentration of active ingredients, made in Canada, and recommended by our very own, we recommend our MD Formula line of products. Containing the specific ingredients mentioned above, we recommend the Collagen Mask, Biome Restore et Camellia Sinensis Soothing Gel, available at your nearest Victoria Park Medispa boutique. We also recommend avoiding potential triggers such as sun exposure, spicy foods and alcohol. As always, we recommend protecting your skin with a UV block daily (even in the winter) that has SPF >30. Our boutiques carry elegant and aesthetic facial UV blocks for year-round application.
