Ablative Laser Resurfacing

Non-invasive solution

If you’ve struggled with deep-set wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage or uneven texture, you may have already tried creams, peels or even non ablative laser treatments with limited success. These options can refresh the skin but may fall short when structural damage lies deeper. That’s where ablative laser resurfacing comes in. This advanced skin rejuvenation treatment removes damaged outer layers of skin to allow new, healthier tissue to grow in its place. The result is firmer, smoother, more even skin that looks and feels dramatically renewed. Whether you’re hoping to address years of accumulated damage or finally feel confident without makeup, an ablative laser may be the transformative solution you’ve been waiting for.

An ablative laser is a resurfacing tool that precisely removes the outer layers of your skin, targeting damaged tissue while stimulating the body’s natural healing response. As the skin heals, new collagen is produced and fresh skin cells replace the old ones. This process improves tone, texture and firmness while reducing the appearance of deep wrinkles, scars, and pigment issues. Unlike a non ablative laser, which heats the underlying layers of skin without damaging the surface, an ablative laser physically removes skin to create more dramatic results. Non ablative laser resurfacing requires less downtime and can be a good option for milder concerns. Ablative lasers are ideal when you need more significant change in fewer sessions.

Technology

At Victoria Park Medispa, we offer several ablative laser technologies so we can tailor treatment to your skin type, goals and desired recovery time.

NanoLaserPeel by Sciton
NanoLaserPeel offers a light epidermal resurfacing treatment that removes only the top layers of dull or damaged skin. Sometimes called a “weekend peel,” this option smooths rough skin, restores radiance and evens out minor imperfections with minimal downtime. It can also be an excellent introductory option before moving on to deeper ablative treatments.

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

Your treatment journey begins with a consultation at Victoria Park Medispa. We will assess your skin, medical history, and goals to determine which ablative technology is best suited for you. We’ll explain what to expect and create a custom plan, which may include pre-treatment skincare and guidelines to reduce risk and optimize results. You may be asked to avoid certain medications, stop using retinol products, and stay out of the sun before your appointment.

DURING THE TREATMENT

On the day of your procedure, your skin will be cleansed and may be numbed using a topical anesthetic. The laser will then be passed over the targeted area, removing surface layers in a controlled and even pattern. Depending on the depth of your treatment, the procedure may take between 15 minutes and one hour. You may feel heat, tingling or a sensation similar to a sunburn as the laser works.

After THE TREATMENT

Healing time depends on the depth of your treatment. Light resurfacing like the NanoLaserPeel typically involves 1 to 3 days of redness and flaking. Deeper CO2 or Laser TRL treatments may require 7 to 10 days of downtime with redness, swelling and peeling. You’ll be provided with detailed aftercare instructions and product recommendations to protect the treated area and support healing. Sun protection is essential during recovery, as your new skin will be more sensitive. Over time, your skin will continue to improve as collagen rebuilds beneath the surface.

FAQ

Got questions about Ablative Lasers? We’ve got your answers here

Who is a good candidate for ablative lasers?

Ablative laser treatments are ideal for people with deeper skin concerns that go beyond the surface. This includes those with pronounced wrinkles and fine lines, acne or surgical scars, enlarged pores, rough texture, sun damage, pigmentation issues, actinic keratoses, uneven tone, or dull and aging skin. In some cases, providers may also recommend combining ablative and non-ablative lasers for enhanced, layered results.

How much does ablative laser cost?

The cost of ablative laser treatments varies based on the technology used, the treatment area and the depth of resurfacing. At Victoria Park Medispa, prices are personalized following consultation. Lighter treatments like NanoLaserPeel start at lower price points, while deeper resurfacing such as CO2 may be priced higher.

Is CO2 laser ablative?

Yes, CO2 lasers are a type of ablative laser. They remove surface skin tissue using targeted heat, making them ideal for treating deep wrinkles, significant sun damage and scarring. CO2 laser resurfacing offers more intensive results than non ablative options, though it does involve more downtime.

Is fractional laser ablative?

Fractional lasers can be either ablative or non ablative, depending on the technology used. Fractional ablative lasers like ProFractional or fractional CO2 remove micro-columns of skin to trigger repair, while fractional non ablative lasers heat the tissue without removing it. Your provider will recommend the right option based on your skin and goals.

Is HALO laser ablative?

HALO is a hybrid laser that combines both ablative and non ablative wavelengths in a single treatment. It delivers resurfacing at multiple skin depths at once, offering noticeable improvement in texture and tone with moderate downtime. It’s often considered a bridge between gentle and aggressive laser treatments.

What does ablative laser mean?

An ablative laser is a type of laser that removes the outer layers of the skin to treat visible damage. It creates a controlled wound to stimulate healing and collagen production, improving texture, tone and elasticity. Ablative lasers are used to treat deeper concerns like wrinkles, scars and advanced sun damage.

Does laser ablation hurt?

Laser ablation is well tolerated by most patients. Topical numbing or local anesthesia is typically used before treatment. During the procedure, you may feel a warm, stinging or prickling sensation. After treatment, the skin may feel sore, like a sunburn, for several days depending on the depth of ablation.

How long does ablative laser last?

The results of ablative laser treatment can last several years, especially when combined with daily sun protection and good skincare. Deeper treatments like CO2 or TRL tend to have longer-lasting results than lighter peels, though ongoing aging and sun exposure may gradually reduce the effect over time.

Is laser ablation safe?

Yes, laser ablation is safe when performed by trained medical professionals using appropriate technology. Patient safety at Victoria Park Medispa is our priority, and we screen for any contraindications before recommending ablative procedures. As with any medical-grade treatment, following pre- and post-care instructions is key to minimizing risks.
