ProFractional
Laser

Non-invasive solution

You may find yourself frustrated by deep wrinkles that no cream can touch, or acne scars that never seem to fade. Perhaps your skin texture feels uneven, or years of sun exposure have left a legacy of pigment and laxity. These concerns often sit below the surface, beyond the reach of superficial treatments. The ProFractional laser treatment is designed to address these more complex concerns by working within the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate regeneration at the source. With each treatment, skin becomes smoother, more refined, and visibly renewed.

ProFractional laser is an advanced skin resurfacing treatment that delivers targeted, fractional energy deep into the dermis. It is ideal for individuals seeking significant improvement in wrinkles, acne scars, textural irregularities and sun damage without the prolonged downtime of fully ablative lasers. By treating only a fraction of the skin’s surface while preserving surrounding tissue, ProFractional allows for faster healing and superior collagen stimulation. It is important to note that several treatments are usually necessary to achieve optimal, long-lasting results.
What is
ProFractional Laser?

ProFractional laser is an advanced skin resurfacing treatment that delivers targeted, fractional energy deep into the dermis. It is ideal for individuals seeking significant improvement in wrinkles, acne scars, textural irregularities and sun damage without the prolonged downtime of fully ablative lasers. By treating only a fraction of the skin’s surface while preserving surrounding tissue, ProFractional allows for faster healing and superior collagen stimulation. It is important to note that several treatments are usually necessary to achieve optimal, long-lasting results.

Technology

The ProFractional laser uses Erbium:YAG laser energy at a 2940-nanometer wavelength, a frequency highly absorbed by water in the skin. This precise targeting allows the laser to vaporize narrow channels deep within the skin while sparing surrounding tissues. These microscopic channels initiate a robust wound-healing response, which triggers the production of new collagen and elastin. The untreated skin between the channels accelerates recovery and supports tissue remodeling.

Unlike traditional ablative lasers that remove the entire top layer of skin, ProFractional works fractionally. This means it resurfaces the skin with a high degree of precision while minimizing downtime. It can be customized to treat everything from superficial pigmentation to deep wrinkles and scars, making it a highly versatile resurfacing option.

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

Preparation is essential to ensure optimal healing and safety. Clients should avoid sun exposure, tanning beds and self-tanning products for at least four weeks prior to treatment. Skincare products containing retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid or hydroquinone should be discontinued five to seven days before your appointment. If your provider recommends a brightening cream or antiviral medication, be sure to begin use as directed in advance of your treatment.

Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin and prepare your space at home with clean linens, towels and post-care products including a gentle cleanser, healing ointment and broad-spectrum sunscreen. Increasing your water intake to at least two litres per day starting 48 hours before your appointment is also recommended to support optimal skin hydration and recovery.

DURING THE TREATMENT

On the day of your procedure, local anesthesia is often used rather than topical anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Once the skin is numbed and cleansed, the ProFractional handpiece will be passed over the treatment area. The sensation is often described as a warm prickling feeling, with mild pressure as the laser delivers energy into the dermis.

The duration of your treatment will vary depending on the size of the area being treated, typically ranging from 30 to 60 minutes. For deeper resurfacing or combination treatments, additional steps such as plasma, exosomes, or other targeted medications may be incorporated to take advantage of the microscopic openings created by the laser, enhancing healing and results. Cooling may also be used to increase comfort.

After THE TREATMENT

Immediately following treatment, redness, warmth, and moderate swelling are expected. The skin may feel similar to a sunburn. Over the next several days, you may notice a bronzed appearance followed by peeling or flaking. While many individuals return to light activities within a week, the healing period generally lasts 5 to 10 days or longer depending on the intensity of the treatment.

Post-care is crucial during this time. You will be advised to cleanse gently, avoid makeup for the first several days, and apply healing ointments to protect the skin barrier. Avoid exercise, hot showers, saunas, and direct sun exposure until the skin has completely healed. A high-quality, mineral-based sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher must be used daily and reapplied every two hours when outdoors.

FAQ

Got questions about the ProFractional laser? We’ve got your answers here

Who is a good candidate for ProFractional laser treatment?

ProFractional laser treatment is best suited for individuals who want to address deeper skin concerns such as wrinkles, scars, pigmentation, or uneven texture. It is ideal for people in good overall health who are looking for significant skin rejuvenation without undergoing surgery. Candidates often include those with deep lines around the eyes or mouth, acne or surgical scars, or visible sun damage. Since ProFractional penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin, it is recommended for clients who can commit to some downtime and want long-lasting results. A consultation with our specialists will determine if this treatment is right for your skin type and goals.

What conditions can ProFractional laser treat?

ProFractional laser treatment is clinically proven to address a wide range of skin concerns, particularly those found in the deeper layers of the skin. It is highly effective for improving deep wrinkles and expression lines, especially around the eyes and mouth, as well as for treating acne scars, surgical scars, and traumatic scars. This treatment also reduces pigmentation caused by sun damage, such as age spots, melasma, and dyschromia, while refining enlarged pores and uneven skin texture. In addition, ProFractional helps improve skin laxity and thinning caused by collagen loss, resulting in a firmer and more radiant appearance. For enhanced outcomes, it is often combined with other treatments such as Halo, Contour TRL, or exosomes, depending on individual skin needs.

How much does ProFractional laser cost?

The cost of ProFractional laser treatment depends on the treatment area, the depth of resurfacing required, and whether it is combined with other modalities. Pricing typically starts at approximately $850 per session and may vary based on your personalized treatment plan. We recommend a complimentary consultation to receive a customized quote.

How long does it take to heal from ProFractional laser?

Healing time varies depending on the intensity of the treatment. Most patients experience visible redness and peeling for 7 to 14 days. Deeper treatments may result in slightly longer recovery. A comprehensive post-care plan is provided to support optimal healing.

How long do ProFractional laser results last?

Results from ProFractional laser treatment can last for several years, particularly when paired with sun protection and a tailored skincare routine. Maintenance treatments every 12 to 18 months can help sustain your skin’s renewed appearance.

Is ProFractional a CO2 laser?

No, ProFractional uses an Erbium:YAG laser, which offers a more targeted and customizable treatment with typically faster healing than CO2 lasers. However, it can produce comparable results for many conditions while preserving more of the surrounding skin.

Is ProFractional laser ablative?

Yes, the ProFractional laser is a fractionated ablative laser. It creates microscopic columns of controlled injury in the skin to trigger a healing response and stimulate collagen, while leaving surrounding tissue intact to promote rapid recovery.

Is ProFractional laser worth it?

For those seeking significant improvements in skin texture, acne scars, deep wrinkles or pigmentation, many clients consider ProFractional laser treatment to be highly worthwhile. It delivers dramatic, long-lasting results with fewer sessions compared to non-ablative options.

Does ProFractional laser hurt?

Topical numbing may be applied before treatment to ensure comfort. Most clients describe the sensation as a warm prickling or heat with mild pressure. Post-treatment, the skin may feel warm or tight, similar to a sunburn, for several hours.

Does ProFractional laser treatment help with rosacea?

While ProFractional can improve skin texture and tone, it is not the primary treatment for rosacea. Clients with rosacea are typically better served with vascular-specific lasers such as Vbeam, ClearV, or Excel V. Your provider will recommend the best approach based on your skin type and condition.

Does ProFractional laser work for acne scars?

Yes, ProFractional laser is one of the most effective treatments for acne scarring, particularly indented or atrophic scars. It remodels the underlying tissue and stimulates new collagen to restore smoother, more even skin.
