CO2 Laser

SCROLL TO LEARN MORE

Over time, wrinkles, scars, and texture irregularities can affect the skin's natural radiance and contribute to a more tired appearance. CO2 laser resurfacing is an advanced ablative laser resurfacing treatment designed to visibly improve skin texture, firmness, and overall tone through deep skin regeneration.

Using fractional CO2 laser technology, the treatment targets both the surface and deeper layers of the skin to stimulate the natural production of collagen and elastin. This treatment helps reduce visible signs of aging, scars, and skin damage while revealing smoother, brighter, and more refined-looking skin.

      FAQ

Got questions about CO2 Laser? We’ve got your answers here!

      WHAT DOES CO2 LASER TREAT?

CO2 laser skin resurfacing is used to improve a wide range of skin concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, rough skin texture, and overall skin quality. It also stimulates collagen production to promote firmer, smoother-looking skin.

IS CO2 LASER SUITABLE FOR ALL SKIN TYPES?

CO2 laser treatment is generally recommended for Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV (light to medium skin tones). However, a personalized consultation is essential to evaluate your skin type, concerns, risk of post-treatment pigmentation, and determine whether this treatment is the best option for your needs and aesthetic goals.

For darker skin types (Fitzpatrick skin types V and VI), treatments such as HALO® or RF microneedling are often recommended instead, as they carry a lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation while still delivering excellent skin resurfacing and rejuvenation results.

HOW MANY CO2 LASER SESSIONS ARE RECOMMENDED?

The number of treatments depends on the condition being treated, the intensity of the treatment, and your desired results. Some patients achieve noticeable improvement after a single session, while others benefit from a customized series of treatments.

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS AFTER CO2 LASER?

Results appear gradually as the skin heals and new collagen is produced. Improvements in skin texture, tone, and firmness continue to develop over the weeks and months following treatment.

CAN CO2 LASER IMPROVE ACNE SCARS?

Yes. Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is commonly used to improve the appearance of acne scars by resurfacing the skin and stimulating collagen remodeling, resulting in smoother skin texture.

DOES CO2 LASER TIGHTEN THE SKIN?

Yes. CO2 laser treatment stimulates your body's natural collagen production, helping improve skin firmness, elasticity, and overall skin quality over time.

      DOES CO2 LASER HURT?

Most patients tolerate the treatment well. A topical numbing cream may be applied before treatment to improve comfort. During the procedure, you may experience a sensation of warmth or heat depending on the treatment intensity.

WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD I AVOID AFTER CO2 LASER?

Following treatment, it is generally recommended to temporarily avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, and other potentially irritating skincare products until your skin has fully healed. Your provider will recommend an appropriate post-treatment skincare routine.

WHEN CAN I WEAR MAKEUP AFTER CO2 LASER?

The timing depends on the intensity of the treatment and your individual healing process. Your provider will advise you when it is safe to resume wearing makeup.

CAN CO2 LASER BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?

Yes. CO2 laser resurfacing can be combined with other aesthetic treatments and medical-grade skincare products as part of a personalized skin rejuvenation plan.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR A CO2 LASER TREATMENT?

Proper preparation helps optimize your results and reduce the risk of complications. You should avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products for at least four weeks before your treatment. Discontinue retinoids, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, and other potentially irritating skincare products 5 to 7 days before your appointment, unless otherwise directed by your provider.

Depending on your skin type, treatment plan, or history of pigmentation, your provider may recommend using a brightening or pigment-suppressing cream for 2 to 4 weeks before treatment to help reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. If you have a history of cold sores, an antiviral medication may also be prescribed as a preventive measure.

On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean, makeup-free skin and prepare your recovery space at home with clean linens, a gentle cleanser, a healing ointment, and a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen. Your provider will give you personalized pre-treatment instructions based on your skin and treatment plan.

HOW LONG DOES A CO2 LASER TREATMENT TAKE?

Treatment time varies depending on the area being treated and the depth of resurfacing required. Most CO2 laser treatments take between 30 and 90 minutes, including the time needed to prepare the skin. Your provider will discuss the expected treatment time during your consultation.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER A CO2 LASER TREATMENT?

Immediately after treatment, it is normal for the skin to appear red and swollen and to feel similar to a sunburn for several days. Over the next 5 to 7 days, the skin will typically develop a bronzed appearance, begin to tighten, and gradually peel, revealing healthier, smoother skin underneath. More intensive treatments may require up to 14 days for the initial healing process.

During recovery, vinegar soaks and the regular application of a medical-grade healing ointment are typically recommended to keep the skin moisturized and help reduce the risk of infection. Makeup can usually be applied again after approximately 7 days, once the skin has completely healed.

Strict sun protection is essential throughout the healing process and beyond to protect your results and minimize the risk of pigmentation changes.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CO2 LASER AND FRAXEL®?

CO2 laser and Fraxel® laser are both skin resurfacing treatments, but they work differently. CO2 laser resurfacing is generally more intensive and is commonly used to treat deeper wrinkles, acne scars, skin laxity, and significant sun damage. Fraxel® typically involves less downtime and is better suited for milder skin concerns. During your consultation, your provider will recommend the treatment best suited to your skin and goals.

      ARE CO2 LASER RESULTS PERMANENT?

CO2 laser treatment provides long-lasting improvements by stimulating collagen production and renewing the skin. However, the natural aging process, sun exposure, and lifestyle factors will continue to affect your skin over time. A consistent skincare routine and daily sun protection can help maintain your results.

      CAN CO2 LASER IMPROVE SCARS?

Yes. CO2 laser resurfacing is commonly used to improve the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and certain traumatic scars. By stimulating collagen remodeling, it helps smooth skin texture and reduce the visibility of scars.

CAN I HAVE CO2 LASER AFTER MICRONEEDLING?

Yes. CO2 laser treatment can be performed after microneedling, provided your skin has fully healed. Your provider will recommend the appropriate interval based on your treatment plan and skin condition.

CAN I USE RED LIGHT THERAPY AFTER CO2 LASER?

Red light therapy may be recommended as part of the healing process following CO2 laser treatment. The appropriate timing depends on the intensity of your treatment and your individual recovery. Always follow your provider's post-treatment instructions.

CAN CO2 LASER IMPROVE UNDER-EYE BAGS?

CO2 laser treatment can improve the appearance of the under-eye area by tightening the skin and reducing fine lines. However, if under-eye bags are primarily caused by excess fat, a surgical procedure such as blepharoplasty may be a more appropriate option.

CAN CO2 LASER REDUCE ENLARGED PORES?

Yes. By stimulating collagen production and skin renewal, CO2 laser resurfacing can reduce the appearance of enlarged pores while improving overall skin texture.

DOES CO2 LASER REMOVE FACIAL HAIR?

No. CO2 laser is not designed for hair removal. If your goal is to reduce unwanted facial or body hair, laser hair removal is a more appropriate treatment.

WHEN CAN I EXFOLIATE AFTER CO2 LASER?

You should wait until your skin has completely healed before using exfoliating products again. Your provider will advise you when it is safe to resume exfoliation, which is typically several weeks after treatment.

WHEN CAN I START USING RETINOL AGAIN AFTER CO2 LASER?

Products containing retinol or retinoids should be avoided until your skin has fully healed. Your provider will advise you when it is safe to gradually reintroduce these products into your skincare routine.

CAN I USE NIACINAMIDE AFTER CO2 LASER?

Niacinamide can generally be reintroduced once the skin has healed sufficiently. Your provider will recommend the appropriate timing based on your recovery and personalized skincare plan.
