Fractional laser resurfacing works by dividing a single laser beam into thousands of microscopic columns of light, also known as microbeams. These beams penetrate just below the surface of the skin, creating tiny zones of controlled thermal injury. The surrounding tissue remains intact, which allows for faster healing and minimal downtime. As your body naturally repairs these micro-injuries, new collagen is produced and damaged skin cells are replaced—resulting in a smoother, more even complexion. Fractional laser is a go-to solution for targeting deep acne scars, sun damage, pigmentation issues, and textural irregularities that cannot be addressed with topical treatments alone.

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

While skin resurfacing fractional laser might be one of the best remedies for skin texture—is it right for you? There’s only one way to know. Book a consultation with a Victoria Park Medispa expert. At your appointment, your expert will determine whether fractional laser treatments are a suitable option for treating your skin-related conditions.

Before your appointment, we recommend arriving with clean, product-free skin. A topical numbing cream may be applied to the treatment area to improve comfort. Your laser technician will then assess your skin and select the appropriate settings based on your unique needs and goals.

DURING THE TREATMENT

During the session, you may feel a warm or prickling sensation as the laser is applied to the skin. Most patients describe the experience as manageable, especially with the added comfort of a built-in cooling system that soothes the skin throughout the process. The treatment typically lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

After THE TREATMENT

After your session, your skin may appear red and feel similar to a sunburn for 24 to 48 hours. Some patients experience mild swelling or tightness. In the days that follow, your skin may begin to flake or lightly peel as old, damaged cells shed and are replaced by healthy, new ones. Most patients return to regular activities within one to two days, but it’s advisable to avoid hot water, heavy sweating, and sun exposure during the initial healing phase. Full results develop gradually over the next few weeks as collagen continues to rebuild from within.

How many sessions of fractional laser will I need?

Most people need 2–4 sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart.

Is fractional laser safe for darker skin tones?

Certain devices like Halo™ can be tailored for Fitzpatrick IV–V skin. Your specialist will recommend the safest option.

Will I be able to work during my downtime?

A fractional laser treatment is our only laser treatment with significant downtime. For four to seven days following treatment, you will look like you have a sunburn as your old skin shed and your new skin comes through. We have photos we can show you during consultation that show the typical progression of recovery.

There is nothing preventing you from working, but many clients choose to work from home or take a vacation week during their recovery period.

What’s the difference between Fraxel, Halo, AND Co2 lasers?

Unlike fully ablative lasers that remove the entire outer layer of skin and require extended downtime, fractional lasers target only a fraction of the skin at a time—preserving healthy tissue and significantly speeding up recovery. While CO2 lasers are typically used for more dramatic results and deeper resurfacing, devices like Halo™ and Fraxel® offer a gentler option with less discomfort and downtime, making them ideal for patients seeking effective results with a shorter healing period.

What other treatments can I combine with fractional laser?

Fractional laser is often paired with BBL, microneedling, or injectables for a comprehensive rejuvenation plan.

Does fractional laser tighten skin?

Yes, through collagen stimulation, you may notice a mild tightening effect over time.

What conditions can be treated with fractional lasers?

Fractional lasers is one of the more extremely effective texture improvement options available on the market. For anyone looking to reduce the appearance of apparent acne scars or wondering about the best treatment for sun damage, we say look no further than the power of laser collagen stimulation therapy. Beyond that, fractional skin resurfacing in Montreal treats the following concerns:

-Acne scars
-Facial scar reduction
-Mild to moderate scars
-Fine lines around the eyes
-Surgical scars
-Stretch marks
-Age spots, sun damage, brown spots and general pigmentation
-Melasma and actinic keratoses
-Minimizing facial pores
-Loss of skin firmness
-Rough skin surface

What makes a fractional laser a great non-surgical mommy makeover treatment?

When it comes to scars due to a caesarean section following childbirth (also known as a C-section), Fractional Lasers such as C02 can really help soften and eliminate their appearance. Fractional lasers provide a more in-depth treatment of the dermis. Unlike the cells in the superficial layers of the skin that are constantly replacing themselves through exfoliation, an intervention such as a fractional laser is one of the only ways to treat dermal scars.

How long do I need to wait following childbirth to begin fractional laser treatments and do I need to be done breastfeeding?

We recommend treating C-section scars as early as possible, followed by a fractional laser if needed at six months postpartum. Breastfeeding is a contraindication for fractional laser. We recommend booking your consultation once you’ve stopped completely.
