What Is HArmonyCa? Canada’s First Dual-Action Injectable

Here is what it is, how it works, and whether it might be right for you.

Table of Contents:

What Is HArmonyCa?

The word “hybrid” refers to its two active ingredients working together in a single syringe:

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA): A substance naturally found in the skin that attracts and retains moisture. In injectable form, it adds immediate volume and structure.
  • Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA): A biocompatible mineral that triggers the skin’s fibroblasts, the cells responsible for building collagen, to produce new collagen and elastin over time.

The combination means patients get results on two timelines: immediate and long-term. That is what separates HArmonyCa from anything previously available in Canada.

How Does HArmonyCa Work?

The treatment works in two sequential phases.

The moment HArmonyCa is injected into the deeper layers of the skin, the hyaluronic acid component acts as a volumizing agent. It fills areas affected by age-related volume loss, providing structure and a visible lifting effect. Most patients notice a refreshed, lifted appearance the same day as their appointment.

The HA gel also serves a second purpose: it acts as a carrier, distributing the CaHA microspheres evenly within the tissue so the biostimulation that follows is consistent across the treated area.

Over the weeks and months after treatment, the CaHA microspheres begin activating fibroblasts in the surrounding tissue. These cells respond by producing new collagen and elastin fibres, which strengthen and firm the skin from the inside out.

This means the improvement you see in the mirror at six months is not the same as what you saw on day one. It is a deeper, more structural result driven by your own biology.

What Does DART Technology Mean?

The technical challenge of combining these two ingredients is not trivial. HA and CaHA have different viscosities and behaviors in tissue. DART technology resolves this by suspending the CaHA microspheres within the HA gel in a way that maintains the stability of both components and ensures even distribution after injection.

In practical terms, DART means the two ingredients work together rather than competing, and that a single injection delivers the benefits of what would otherwise require two separate treatment protocols.

What Can HArmonyCa Treat?

HArmonyCa is indicated for soft tissue augmentation in the face, with a focus on areas where volume loss and skin laxity are most visible.

Primary treatment areas include:

  • Cheeks and midface: Restoring the lifted, defined look that volume loss gradually flattens
  • Jawline and lower face: Improving definition and reducing the appearance of jowling
  • Skin quality throughout treated areas: Firming and improving elasticity as collagen rebuilds

It is particularly well-suited for patients who have noticed their face looking flatter, more tired, or less defined than it used to, without wanting a surgical result or an obviously altered appearance.

It is also an option for patients who have experienced rapid facial volume loss following significant weight loss, including those on GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide. Rapid fat loss in the face can accelerate the visible signs of aging; collagen biostimulation alongside volume restoration addresses both concerns in a single treatment.

What Results Can You Expect?

  • 91.6% of patients showed measurable improvement in the general appearance of treated facial areas
  • 4.1 out of 5 patients reported high overall satisfaction and said they would repeat the treatment, assessed up to 19 months after their procedure
  • Facial tissue volume (FTV) increased significantly at 60, 90, and 180 days post-treatment, with a median increase of 2.2 mm at 180 days, measured using Vectra H2 3D imaging

Results last up to 18 months. Most patients consider the appearance at around six months, when collagen production is fully active, to be the most complete expression of the treatment’s effect.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

HArmonyCa is best suited for adults experiencing early to moderate signs of facial aging, particularly:

  • Mild to moderate loss of volume in the cheeks or lower face
  • Skin that has lost firmness or elasticity
  • A tired or drawn appearance that was not there a few years ago
  • Facial changes following significant weight loss

It is not a treatment for deep structural issues, and it does not correct everything a surgical facelift would. For patients in the early-to-mid stages of visible aging who want a natural result without surgery, it is a strong candidate for conversation.

It is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18 years of age, or have active skin infections, certain autoimmune conditions, or known allergies to product components. A full medical consultation is required before any treatment.

What Is the Treatment Like?

The injection itself takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. HArmonyCa contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, which is built into the formulation to reduce discomfort during the procedure.

Mild redness, swelling, and tenderness at the injection site are normal and typically resolve within a few days. A visible lifting effect is present from day one.

Collagen production builds progressively. Most patients see continued improvement through months three to six.

How Does It Compare to Other Injectables?

Traditional HA fillers (Juvederm, Restylane): Provide immediate volume but no biostimulation. Results last 6 to 18 months depending on the product. Fully reversible with hyaluronidase.

Radiesse: A pure CaHA biostimulator. Provides immediate structural support and triggers collagen production, but does not contain HA. Results last up to 18 months.

Sculptra: A poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) biostimulator. No immediate volumizing effect. Works purely through gradual collagen stimulation over multiple sessions. Results can last 24 months or longer.

FAQ

Is HArmonyCa available in Canada?

Yes. HArmonyCa with Lidocaine received Health Canada authorization in May 2026.

Is HArmonyCa a filler or a biostimulator?

It is both. The hyaluronic acid component functions as a filler, adding immediate volume. The calcium hydroxyapatite component functions as a biostimulator, triggering the skin’s own collagen production. That dual function is what makes it a new category of treatment.

How long does HArmonyCa last?

Clinical data shows results lasting up to 18 months. A maintenance treatment around 12 months is an option for patients who want to sustain their results.

How many sessions of HArmonyCa do you need?

Most patients start with one to two sessions. Your provider determines the appropriate number based on your anatomy, the degree of volume loss, and your treatment goals.

Can HArmonyCa be combined with neuromodulators or other treatments?

Yes. HArmonyCa is often part of a broader treatment plan that includes neuromodulators, traditional HA fillers, or energy-based skin treatments.

Does HArmonyCa hurt?

The formulation contains lidocaine, which significantly reduces discomfort during injection. Most patients describe the procedure as tolerable. Mild soreness and swelling after the appointment are common and resolve within a few days.

How much does HArmonyCa cost in Canada?

Single syringes start at $800 and may go up to $1000. Pricing depends on the clinic location, provider, and the number of syringes used in your treatment plan.
